Climate change

SOUTH Lakeland District Council has made a commitment to tackle climate change.

The council joined forces with hundreds of other local authorities when it signed the Nottingham Declaration on Climate Change.

The document was signed by SLDC’s leader, Councillor Brendan Jameson, and its chief executive, Peter Ridgway.

Cllr Jameson, said: “The council is prioritising ‘getting our own house in order’.

“Our proposed target is a 25 per cent reduction in the CO2 emissions of our operations by 2012/13.

“We have a cross departmental team developing and implementing energy efficiency and CO2 reduction projects to achieve this.”
