BARROW park has been crowned the best in the north west.
The park, off Abbey Road, won the title in Britain’s Best Park competition.
Parks were judged on aspects such as their design, usability, maintenance and “community involvement”.
The judges were particularly impressed at the way Barrow park appeals to both residents and visitors to the town.
Ian Small, one of the judges and business development manager for Briggs and Stratton UK Ltd, which sponsored the competition, said: “The park’s high levels of maintenance, diverse events schedule and ease of access make it a worthy winner of the regional prize.”
Katy Hall, parks and amenities officer for Barrow Borough Council, which manages the park, said: “It is a great achievement that Barrow Park is the winning regional entry for the north west.
“It really endorses the hard work that the park team and contractors undertake and shows that Barrow Park really is outstanding.”
The other regional winners were Queen’s Gardens, Newcastle-under-Lyme, Regents Park, London, Hylands Park, Chelmsford, Grove Park, Weston-super-Mare, Tollcross Park, Glasgow, and Bute Park, Cardiff.
The overall winner was Mowbray Park, Sunderland.

Have your say
I am very proud of my home town park. The Sunderland park that won must be really fantastic to beat our park.
