Read the small print

PETER Morris, of Cardiff Street, Walney, asks: “My wife has an account card with Evans and they sent us a letter asking if we would like to take advantage of a 30-day free trial credit check.

“I thought it didn’t sound too bad but then on the back of the letter, in very small writing, the terms explained you then had to pay £69.99 for 12 months, which seems a huge amount of money.

“I thought readers should be aware of this problem, I’m sure there are some people out there who wouldn’t think to turn over and read the tiny print at the bottom of the page.”

Myra Butterworth, of online advice company, Money Expert, gave the following warning about small print: “While it is tempting to ignore the small print on a contract, such a move can result in your bank balance becoming leaner than you anticipated. Companies entice you with new and innovative products – they may have strings attached.”
