A SUMMER of toil was rewarded at Cumbria in Bloom 2008.
The annual awards were hosted a month earlier this year to encourage schools to take part in the competition.
The award ceremony, held at Houghton Hall Garden Centre in Carlisle yesterday, was attended by delegates from 49 communities.
Dalton triumphed in the Barrow-In-Furness Trophy. Dalton Mayor Dermot O’Connor said: “All the hard work that the people of Dalton have put in has paid off.
“It is encouraging and shows that the people of Dalton work together to make the town look good.
“In particular I would like to thank councillor Liz Young for all of her hard work.”
Another winner was the Cartmel Grange Care Home in Grange.
Other winners included Grasmere in the large village category and Windermere won the best town award.
