Visitor centre draws tourists

A NEW lease of life has been given to a Copeland tourist attraction.

The centre also under went a transformation in January when staff scrapped the “wishy washy” attractions in the building to focus their attention on the nuclear industry.

The change has been judged a success by the centre’s manager Eva Watson-Graham.

She said: “What we are trying to do is not do lots of things but focus more on the nuclear industry.

“Over the years things got bigger and we ended up with sharks and dinosaurs, it was all a bit wishy washy, but we want to get back to our roots.

“During summer we get about 1,000 people turning up on coaches but in winter we are now doing better.

“We can have 500 people walking through the doors.

“At the moment it is the school holidays so it is good but hopefully things won't drop off now we have changed.

“We have also started using the rooms for business conventions and that is working well.”

The next event to be held at the centre will be the Nuclear Decommission exhibition, which is due to take place from September 8.
