Mini pilots like Charlie Hicks, three-and-a-half, were thrilled to get the chance to sit in the cockpit of a Red Arrows training plane.
The bright red aircraft was just one of many attractions that entertained thousands of visitors on The Glebe, at Bowness. Little Charlie, who visited the show on Saturday, said: “I loved it.”
His dad John Hicks, 41, from Windermere, said: “I think it’s an excellent show.
“The weather is great. I have found the people representing the forces make everyone feel welcome.”
Visitors sat on the hill, the perfect place to watch the aircrafts, flypast against a back drop of Windermere and the Lakeland fells.
On Saturday, families were treated to aerial display by Spitfire, Hurricane, Dakota and Jet Provost planes.
The highlight of the eighth Windermere Air Show was The Yakovlevs’ formation flying display team. The skilled pilots gave a dramatic aerobatic demonstration in the Russian built planes.
Spectators also got a close look at a Chinook helicopter and the Great North Air Ambulance that were on the ground
The packed schedule also included old military vehicles, mock civil war battles from the Earl of Loudoun’s Regiment of Foote, falconry displays an Army climbing wall and fair rides.
On Sunday the crowds were set to enjoy flypasts by an RAF Hawk and a Sea King helicopter.
The grand finale was due to be the RAF Falcons Parachute display.
Clive Langley, from the Rotary Club of Windermere, said: “We are expecting to have 30,000 visitors.
“It’s the biggest ever Windermere Air Show because we’ve got more flight displays and more displays on the ground. It’s brilliant, the weather is wonderful and the crowds are enjoying themselves and having their picnics. It’s a relaxing day for everyone.”
All proceeds from the show are in aid of the charities, including the Great North Air Ambulance and the Alzheimer’s Society.
