From beneath the clouds of black steam, pristine machines powered into the main ring at Cumbria Steam Gathering.
Mighty Showmans and traction engines and steam rollers and wagons all took centre stage at Cark Airfield, Flookburgh.
A fine host of miniature engines were also on display alongside enormous machines.
Between 30,000 and 40,000 people are expected to have flocked to the annual festival over Saturday and Sunday.
There were more than 1,200 exhibits for visitors to see. The majestic steam engines, some worth around £500,000, were joined by classic cars, tractors, classic motorcycles and commercial vehicles.
David Williams, from Rampside exhibited his well-maintained Triumph 1953 speed twin 500cc with Furness British Motorcycle Club.
Mr Williams said: “We always come to the Steam Gathering. It’s a good get-together. There is always plenty to see and do.”
The Coventry Corps Drums group entertained the crowds, while many enjoyed the traditional fair rides or a look around the craft stalls.
The weekend also included demonstrations in ploughing, cultivating, forestry and wood sawing, kite flying and model car racing.
At dusk there was a spectacular music and light show with the two ornate organs.
Stuart Dandy, from Wigan, brought his family to the gathering. Mr Dandy said: “We’ve come for a day out. It’s a really good event.”
Tim Holt, rally organiser, from Kirkby Lonsdale, said: “I think it’s one of the best value shows in the world. We are putting on a show for the benefit of the exhibitors, where they can show off their toys, and the enjoyment of the public.
