A SECTION of the M6 in Cumbria is set to be closed for four nights from 8pm to 6am while resurfacing takes place.

Work has started between junctions 36 (Kirkby Lonsdale) and Burton Services to resurface the carriageway, replace reflective road studs and road markings, and upgrade safety barriers.

The work covers a 3-mile stretch across 3 lanes – the equivalent of 7 football pitches – and is expected to be completed by the end of March.

Project Manager Peter Gee said: “Regular drivers on the M6 will know this stretch needs resurfacing, and people will benefit from smoother and safety journeys as a result.

“We’ve put together a programme of work designed to get the scheme done in the shortest time with the least disruption, with all of the closures taking place overnight when the road is at its quietest.”

Four consecutive overnight closures are planned from Monday 7 March, between 8pm and 6am. At other times, a single lane closure and 50mph speed limit will manage traffic through the roadworks for the safety of crews and road users. The programme is subject to suitable weather conditions.
