Turning clock back to war

RECREATING the make-do-and-mend days of the Second World War seems to have gained a whole new following in the current austerity Britain.

There was a huge crowd packing the streets of Ingleton for this year’s Operation Home Guard with everything on show from fire-fighting and bomb disposal equipment to the contents of a typical 1940s kitchen.

Today and tomorrow it is Lytham’s turn to tell the story of Lancashire at war in its 1940s weekend.

A battle re-enactment and military camp combine with a major exhibition by the local history group.

Last year there was even a full wartime wedding in one of the local churches.

On the following Saturday and Sunday the army jeeps and trucks head to the Durham Light Infantry Museum for the 39th North East Military Venicle Club rally.
