Good time to be giving

THE collecting tins will be rattling today as cash is raised for good causes at the Barrow carnival parade.

To mark the day we have turned the clock back a quarter-century to the events of 1987.

John Smith was the mayor and the carnival queen was Julie Harper.

Among the exhibits taken through the streets of Barrow was a huge model of a submarine made by first-year VSEL apprentices.

A Viking longship was made by five Barrow Scout packs and filled with youngsters all answering to the name of Erik the Red.
