NEW CHALLENGE: Dalton unemployed men of 1930 try fell walking SUBMITTED

Mr Pickthall writes: “These are Dalton blokes and I think they were on one of the unemployed men's rambles – which they all thought was the best thing about being unemployed – sometime about 1930, I guess.

“At the back, left, leaning on the cairn, is my grandfather, Albert Bonser.

“The man standing at the front of the cairn is, I think, Jack Hosfield.

“I think the man smoking a pipe at the front might be Johnny Wood.

“He worked with unemployed people, organising cultural activities and was also a decent playwright.

“I recognise many of the faces from my boyhood in Dalton, but can't recall other names. Nor can I identify which fell they have climbed.

“I hope someone else might know who they all are.”
