Matthew’s rallying for Cumbria

Rally driver Matthew Wilson has returned to action in the Wales Rally GB sporting a brand-new livery.

The look identifies his Cumbrian roots and highlights the county’s growing commercial prowess.

In his Ford Fiesta RS, Wilson will compete as part of the M-Sport Ford World Rally Team with backing from Invest in Cumbria and Britain’s Energy Coast Cumbria.

The livery also features the in-cumbria brand in acknowledgement of the part Cumbrian Newspapers’ business magazine and website play in promoting the county’s success stories.

The 25-year-old – partnered by co-driver Scott Martin – is the only British driver in the World Rally Championship (WRC). He has a strong track-record at his home event with its fast and technical gravel stages making it a firm favourite with drivers and spectators alike.

Wilson is delighted to be promoting Cumbria’s leading brands in the WRC.

He said: “I am very proud of my Cumbrian roots and to have pretty much everything on this project from Cumbria is fantastic.

“Obviously both Scott and myself are Cumbrians born-and-bred, the car has been built here at M-Sport [in Cumbria] and to have the support of so many local organisations is very encouraging.”

Formerly known as the RAC Rally and first run in 1932, Wales Rally GB is one of the oldest rallies in the world and one of the UK’s most prestigious sporting events.

It runs until Sunday.
