Donna McArthur, a 55-year-old chef married Vivien Hartley, a 56-year-old tenant liaison officer on Friday November 4, 2016 in a romantic and intimate ceremony.

The couple, who now live in Geneva Street, Barrow, have known of each other for more than 30 years, but were only introduced properly by mutual friends in 2007. They formed a good friendship over a year and eventually began dating in 2008.

Proposal: Donna proposed in July 2008 at the O2 Arena in London when they were at a Kylie Minogue concert.

Venue: Chequers Hotel, Dalton.

Bridal outfits: Donna wore a Spirit of Scotland kilt and jacket hired from Mister Mr in Barrow. Vivien wore a white designer blouse with blue tailored trousers and a Cadbury purple shawl with white Converse high tops that had sequins on the toe fronts.

Bridesmaids: Two of the couple's best friends Karen Glover (for Donna) and Lesley Ivinson (for Vivien) gave excellent speeches at the wedding breakfast and their other two best friends Kerry and Ceejay Messenger acted as their witnesses and looked after the wedding rings.

Donna's son Tony and Vivien's son-in-law Sean also made sure that the guests were greeted and looked after during the day.

Flowers: By Deborah's Florist in Ainslie Street, Barrow. They followed the natural theme of the wedding with stunning perfection.

Reception: The ceremony and reception were both held at Chequers and during the photographs guests had canapés and drinks. The main meal was a four-course event with wine and prosecco for the tables and toasts.

Table settings: Natural flowers in galvanised buckets.

Favours: Hessian bags with chocolates, sweets and packs of wildflower seeds for the guests to sow to remind them of the fantastic wedding day.

Cake: A four-tier confection made up of lemon and Black Forest layers. There were beautiful fresh berries used to decorate it and a semi-naked frosting on the sponges. This was perfectly made by Donna Corr of Corrs Cakes, Barrow.

First Dance: Florence and the Machine - You Got the Love. The couple spent five weeks travelling to Kendal to visit Wilds School of Dance, where teachers Mark and Denise designed a specific routine for the couple. Mark was extremely patient and the couple spent hours practising at home, which really paid off when they performed such an epic dance routine for their guests on their special day.

Entertainment: Live music from Joe Slater on guitar and Lindsey and Lisa Hart who performed superb tribute acts of, Kylie, Amy Winehouse, Madonna, Paloma Faith, Lady GaGa and then finished the night off with Abba.

Honeymoon: A mini-moon at the Knoll, Lakeside, which included a hot tub. The couple are spending Christmas and New Year with Donna's brothers and their families in Canada which will be the trip of a lifetime.
