Barrow girls Emma McPrice, and Samantha McFarlane, both 30, had a fairy tale ending to their love story when they tied the knot on Friday July 8.

Sam, a drug and alcohol support worker, and Emma, a probation service officer, moved to Newcastle two years ago. The girls wanted a wedding filled with all of their beloved friends and family from Barrow and had their dream wedding this summer surrounded by many well-wishers.

How they met: The girls met through mutual friends around 14 years ago when they both had other partners. Sam then moved away from the area and when she returned it was to find both herself and Emma single. The girls fell in love as soon as they saw each other again outside Sam's nanna's house.

Speaking about the wedding, bride Emma McPrice said: "It was the most amazing day of our lives. One of our friends, Sasha Waldron, told us about the venue and the chance we had to legally marry and said we should just go for it as she thinks we have such an amazing love story as a couple.

"Being together we have accomplished so much. Our wedding was a team effort with our friends and family.

"We were touched by the efforts they went to so that they could show us how loved we are. Since leaving Barrow we still feel so included when we come home."

Proposal: Emma proposed to Sam by planning a secret engagement party. The Evening Mail covered the party on March 29 2014.

This date was very significant for Emma and Sam because it was the day that gay marriage was legalised in the UK. The whole plan almost went wrong when Sam was tempted to back out of a "mate date" night out due to feeling unwell, but eventually she arrived at The Kill One, in Duke Street, Barrow. Emma proposed to Sam on the dance floor, after previously asking permission from Sam's parents. Thankfully, Sam was overjoyed and said yes.

Venue: Newcastle Civic Centre.

Theme: Vintage.

Bridal Outfits: Both the brides wore traditional white dresses.

Entourage: Emma was given away by her best friend, John Jacques, and her friend's mum Jacqui Lamb.

Sam was given away by her mum and nanna.

Flowers: The brides decided on artificial handmaid corsages.

Reception: The Lancastrian Suite, Gateshead.

Table settings: Chocolate-filled hand-made jars, prepared by the brides.

Cake: 100 chocolate cupcakes and a three-tiered vintage chocolate cake.

First Dance: Macklemore and Ryan Lewis - Same Love.

Entertainment: A local DJ and a fun photobooth.

Honeymoon: Tenerife.

Photographer: Lee Holmes, from Barrow.

Videographer: The couple's friend, Andrew Fenton, recorded the day and uploaded it to Youtube.

Music: Friend Vicki Campbell sang while the brides were walked down the aisle. She had also crafted some personal, memorable artwork to decorate the venue.

Poem: Another friend of the couple, Shelly Pearson, read a beautiful poem at the ceremony.
