A CUMBRIAN name to look out for on the bill at Kendal Calling later this month is Gritty Britain.

Rock fans in Furness can get a sneak preview of what the Arnside trio have to offer with a live show in Barrow this week.

The established outfit have made a big impression in the South Lakes, mixing hard rock and humorous lyrics, delivered with panache and flair in Cumbrian dialect.

They are one of a handful of local bands to appear at this summer’s Kendal Calling, having made their debut there last year. Beatherder has been ticked off the list and they have also recently played shows across the North.

Made up of three well-established and experienced local musicians – Thom Heywood on guitar and vocals, Colin Salter on bass and vocals and drummer Andrew Slater – they deliver risque social commentary on contemporary society, from diverse and individual perspectives.

On Friday they play through their memorable self-penned tunes and material from their debut release, Good For Nothing .

Gritty Britain head to The Derby, in Dalton Road, for a free show from around 9pm.
