IT has taken almost six years, and a few cancellations due to bad weather, but we are nearly there at Barrow parkrun number 300.

We are hoping that everyone who has completed a Barrow parkrun turns out to break our parkrun record of 208. There will also be lots of celebrating next Saturday, and hopefully a bit of cake, as we are looking forward to the milestone runs of Ian Jones (250) and junior runners Owain Clark and Lily Pennington (10 runs).

It will also be a special birthday run for Dave Spencer; Dave is celebrating his 80th birthday during the week.

Congratulations to you all.

Barrow parkrun started on September 24 2011. Since then, 3,458 participants have completed 34,935 parkruns covering a total distance of 174,675 km – including 6,230 new personal bests.

This week we saw milestone runs for Jenny Fox, Lorraine O’Neill, Fraser Symon, Heather Travis and Martin Clarkson, who all completed their 50th parkruns. Thank you for all the lovely cakes that we shared after the run over a cuppa and a chat.

The rewards are juniors (under-19s), 10 runs, over-19s, 50,100 and 250 runs – for these you receive a free running T-shirt from our sponsors at Tribesport.

We also welcomed tourists from Lancaster, Burnley, Sheffield, Durham and Pennington – we hope you enjoyed our slightly undulating course.

This week 170 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 15 were first-timers and 22 recorded new personal bests. Representatives from nine different clubs took part.

This week’s personal best times were achieved by: James Thomas, Kirsty Noble, Nicola Noble, James Fazackerley, Harry Nicholson, Charlotte Wills, Katie Noble, Jack Fazackerley, Dave Cross, Vanja Pennington, Keri Beck, Francesca Greenwood, Aidan Greenwood, Paul Turley, Kirsten Johnson, Kelly White, Connor Bentley, Olivia Hughes, Finley Corkill, Holly Gomersall, Catherine Wearing and Paul Corkill.

Well done to you all.

The event was made possible by 22 volunteers: Fiona Bannister, Sonja Foster, David Farish, Marie Morris, Robert Edwards, David Spencer, Michael Cook, Louise Cook, Harvey Cooper, Raymond Robb, Charlie O’Hare, Gary Woodhouse, Linda Croud, Susan Birkby, Nicholas Emerson, John Sherwen, John Wearing, Emma Gomersall, Olivia Gomersall, Susan Clarkson, Eve Munro Clarkson and Al Wilson.

Saturday’s full results and a complete event history can be found on the Barrow parkrun Results Page at http://www.parkrun.org.uk/barrow/results/latestresults/.

We welcome children at parkrun. Please note that those under the age of 11 must be within arm’s reach of a parent, guardian or designated adult of the parents’ choice while attending 5k parkrun events.

It must also be ensured that children place themselves appropriately at the start so as to prevent a situation where they are being repeatedly overtaken. This is to ensure the safety of your child.

See you all soon

Mike and Louise Cook
