RENOWNED Furness artist Daniel Cooper launches his brand-new exhibition, Northern Sights, in the Lake District this weekend.

The solo show opens at the Old Courthouse Gallery, in Ambleside, on Saturday, and will be on display for three weeks.

The exhibition will feature new, unseen original artworks, alongside limited edition prints, and follows on from his successful Northern Light exhibition from earlier this year. This will be his last solo exhibition of 2018.

Currently the artist in residency at Brantwood, in Coniston, this summer has also seen Cooper's work included at the prestigious Lake Artists Society exhibition in Grasmere.

In keeping wit his trademark style, for which he has become an established artist locally and with international collectors, Northern Sights includes a collection of expressive charcoal drawings on canvas, studies of the moon and local landscape paintings of dramatic evening weather around The Lakes. There will be around 20 originals on display during the show, with pieces available to buy.

The gallery has presented Cooper’s work for more than two years.

He says: “It is a privilege to show in such a beautiful gallery in the heart of the Lake District.

"This exhibition will be showing my latest work, made throughout 2018."

Cooper has been a full-time artist for around five years, becoming well-known for his atmospheric and emotional response to the Lakeland landscape, while much of his recent work has drawn him closer to the dazzling sunsets seen from the coast.

The Ireleth-based artist has established a reputation for capturing Cumbria in a way that is deeply personal and entirely unique, using locally-sourced charcoal and mixed media.

His work has featured in prominent galleries in the Lake District, with pieces being picked up by collectors around the world.

He has also had work included in some major international publications, including most recently in Tatler magazine.

While it is Cooper's last solo exhibition of the year, he will be showing at events such as the Brantwood Winter Craft Fair in Coniston, and the Dickensian festival in Ulverston.

Northern Sights will be free to view at the Old Courthouse Gallery from this Saturday until Sunday October 7.
