RECENT cult classics and award-winning foreign-language movies feature as Film Club at the Roxy returns for its 30th year

The new programme of 10 monthly screenings at the Ulverston cinema has been announced, with the first up next week.

Critically-acclaimed 2017 American drama The Florida Project gets things under way on Thursday 13, after it was chosen by both the National Board of Review and American Film Institute as one of the top 10 films of the year.

Zambian-made I'm Not A Witch follows on October 11, having won its director, Rungano Nyoni, a BAFTA, and on November 8 there is a showing of black and white Polish love story Cold War.

The final screening of 2018 is The Breadwinner - winner of Best Animated Film at this year's Annie Awards - screening on December 13.

The new year gets under way on January 13 with Leave No Trace - an American film that follows a veteran father with PTSD, who lives in the forest with his young daughter.

German film Western screens on February 14, telling the story of German construction workers who start a job in the Bulgarian countryside, but face prejudices and tensions.

Japanese film Shoplifters, which is yet to be released in the UK, shows on March 14, while Academy Award-nominated French film Faces Places, following director Agnes Varda and photographer J.R. on their journey through rural France, screens on April 11.

Australian-made film Sweet Country, starring Sam Neill, shows on May 9, and the programme wraps up on June 13 with Turkish movie Butterflies, which recently won a Grand Jury Prize at Sundance 2018.
