1 Lakes Alive, Kendal – Friday to Sunday

Free events take place across the town, including the popular Jacob’s Join dining experience tomorrow evening, night time star walks, and a performance by a virtual choir at Abbot Hall.

2 Meal on Piel Walk - Saturday

John Murphy will lead the afternoon walk over the sands to Piel. Walkers are asked to meet next to The King Alfred pub, on Ocean Road, Walney, at 3pm. A car convoy will then make its way to Snab Point at south Walney to cross the sands.

The group will stroll to Piel, a two-mile walk, learning about the nature and the history of Piel, before visiting The Ship Inn for a meal, and heading back into the setting sun.

3 Motor Boat Racing, Barrow – Saturday

Spectacular racing action takes place in Cavendish Dock courtesy of the Windermere Motor Boat Racing Club.

One of their regular race meetings, it will see members do battle in high-powered vessels. Racing takes place between noon and 4pm, and can be viewed from the side of the dock.

4 Morecambe Bay’s Hidden Heritage exhibition, Barrow – opens Saturday

Delve into the Bay's maritime, industrial and archaeological past at this new exhibition, opening at the Dock Museum and running until November.

It celebrates the Bay's unsung people and seldom seen corners, as visitors discover ruins, ancient archaeology, historical puzzles and tantalizing tales.

5 Thomas Brown Memorial Weekend, Haverigg – Saturday and Sunday

Motocross riders and spectators will honour one of the sport’s brightest stars, who died last year aged 27.

The memorial weekend, held at a track that has been renamed in Thomas Brown’s memory, is hosted by the MC Federation and Cumbria MX Club and will feature races across both days.

6 Holker Chilli Fest – Saturday and Sunday

A two-day festival at the Holker Estate with specialist chilli companies from all over the country, local specialist food suppliers, catering featuring cuisine from around the world and a variety of quirky gifts.

7 Tour de Furness, Barrow – Sunday

The charity cycle ride is organised by the Rotary Club of Furness to raise money for St Mary’s Hospice and other local causes, with rides suitable for all ages and abilities.

8 Emergency Services Day, Barrow – Sunday

Activities at Barrow Police Station include demonstrations from police dog handlers, and demonstrations by other emergency services, as well as a fun quiz for children, and a chance to view a selection of vehicles and equipment.

9 Classic Drive and Ride In Day, Lakeland Motor Museum – Sunday

You don’t have to own a classic vehicle to attend, just simply go along and join in the fun. Guests can view the private cars on display, take a visit to the museum or grab some refreshments at the riverside Cafe Ambio.

10 Dragon Bay 2018, Low Wood Bay – Sunday

An annual charity event taking place on Windermere, at Low Wood Watersports Centre, the all-action race is held in support of Paddlers for Life, which helps those suffering from cancer through physical activity

Formed in 2014, Dragon Bay raises awareness for the charity, while each team pays a donation and will then raise funds for charities of their own choice.
