Lake District hotel’s electric cars for guests
Last updated at 12:41, Tuesday, 31 July 2012
Electric cars are going on the road at a Lake District hotel this week.
The Langdale hotel and spa became the first in the Lake District National Park to install electric car charging points, and now it has taken delivery of two new cars for guests to use.
The Renault Twizys are available from today for guests to take green trips around the lakes.
The cars reach a top speed of 50mph and can travel for 62 miles after charging.
Dan Visser, hotel director, said they offered a “really unique and fun way” to explore the area, as well as being environmentally friendly.
“There’s already been a lot of excitement about their arrival and we believe it’s right to invest in truly sustainable alternatives,” he said.
The two seater cars will be available to hire from the hotel for three hour slots, costing £29 each. Visitors need to show a valid driving licence. Other electric car charging points are at Bowness Tourist Information Centre, Ullswater Steamers and Ravenglass and Eskdale Steam Railway.
Langdale’s electric cars have been supported through the Go Lakes Travel programme, a £6.9m initiative funded by the Department of Transport.
