@Anon - I think you'll find that if Summergrove was "thriving" or was a business which could demonstrate it could make a profit, it would have been an investment opportunity for someone.

As it was, it wasn't, so closed.

Sorry for you, but glad I won't have to attend any more weddings or christmas parties up there.

It was only as big a "nightmare" as you wanted to make it - and you had the option to leave any time you wished... Think of those for whom this is quite possibly the end.

If your so keen on moving away then why not give up your job to make one free for one who has lost their job at cumbrian. These people have given years of their life to develop that business and develop business in cumbria. Once over cumbrian seafoods was a credit to our area. Not only have they let their employees down they have given jobs and custom to their main competitor. I find it totally ignorant to assume that those who have lost their jobs to just up sticks and leave their life and families they have built in the area. These people are hard working decent people who need recognised for their efforts and not being commented on in such a way on a local site. What happened to the local community supporting each other?

Yes, the opportunity is there for everyone to remain in employment, albeit at the cost of relocating to "one of 13 other sites" (not including Seaham).

What a wonderful opportunity to get out of this god-forsaken corner of the country and move to somewhere possibly exciting and exhilirating.

If you're currently one of the people whinging about the closure, get your name down and get moved and get a new life somewhere else.

Anyone considered the local and county authorities have a policy to deliberatly close down cumbria and make them so desperate for work the nuclear industry will just come in and dump all theirs and all the worls rubbish on us in the name of employment needs,it would'nt suprise me if they had an agenda with the nuclear industry as they get more money out of them than anything else outside goverment.

Yet another sad blow for west Cumbria.

I was one of the 49 staff laid off from Summergrove on March 31st, a thriving business and hotel bringing tourism to the area.

I completley feel for these people, and yes yet again No backing or support from our M.P or local councillors just like us, we had nobody fighting our corner.

West Cumbria is soon to become a ghost town, because nobody seems to care unless it is sellafield related.

I really do hope their is some reprieve for these people as loosing your job is not nice at all, especially like us when nobody would give anyone any answers, we were kept hanging until 3 weeks before, it is not fair to play with peoples lifes like this.

I think it's about time our M.P and local councillors did something for the people of west cumbria.

On Border Crack and Deekaboot this evening the Youngs Seafood operations manager mentioned that Youngs had 300 vacancies within the company and that the employees at the West Cumbria factory will have first shout. For many individuals this will mean the difficult choice and logistics of having to relocate. However, an employee who was also interviewed did say that Youngs had behaved honourably. Having relocated myself on numerous occasions, this could be an opportunity for many and their families to begin afresh. Though a blow for West Cumbria, the employees have an opportunity they should seriously consider. Best of luck to everyone at the factory and for the future.

All of Copelands eggs are now firmly in one basket and that is the worlds nuclear waste dustbin. How proud is Cllr Woodburn of that legacy ?
