Hoopers bosses holding talks with possible buyers for Carlisle store

The fight is on to save 83 jobs at Hoopers with the owners in talks with potential buyers for the Carlisle building.

Have your say

Well i have walked past the store many times but never actually been in it. It looked completely uninviting and very expensive. Unfortunately in this day and age its got to look CHEAP and TACKY because most people are skint and all the rest shop on the internet. Sadly its a sign of the times that we live in at the moment.

Carlisle is fast becoming a faceless clone, with chain stores and cheap discount retailers which can be found in any high street.

The closure of an 'upmarket' store, which perhaps eventually priced its merchandise out of the reach of most people in the Carlisle (and wider Cumbrian) area.

How sad - Chapmans and now Hoopers. Is our city going to be a mass of boarded up and closed shops?

As with all local services and businesses, use them or lose them.

Oh no, where will I buy my granny shoes, overpriced perfume and Barbour coats now?! Surely, Primark will take it over

Sad for the staff losing their jobs, but it was an exclusive and rather expensive store.
Never used it and won't personally be affected by its closure. People are looking for cheaper stores and prices and Hoopers were unable to offer this to the customers.

That's what happens when you get a Labour council!

Seriously, what are you going to do about this Joe Hendry and who is going to lead the BID team now? My sympathy for all those affected by the closure. Dreadful news.
