Karla Wall and Paul McCowen

KARLA Wall, aged 27, and Paul McCowen, aged 30, of Ocean Road, Walney, got married on July 21, 2012

How they met: The couple grew up together but met on a night out in 2002.

Proposal: The groom proposed in Ibiza, at a famous bar, as the sun set in 2010.

Venue: The couple were married at St Mary’s Church, Dalton, on Saturday July 21, 2012.

During the ceremony the bride’s grandfather, Bill Wall, read a poem to the congregation, ‘Daffodils’ by William Wordsworth. The church bells rang before and after the service.

Theme: There was no set theme but Paul added retro touches by giving classic Casio Watches to the groomsmen and later surprising them with original Blue Peter badges which they all wore on their suits.

Bride’s outfit: The bride wore a white, A-line dress with a lace bodice and tulle skirt with lace appliqué, and hand beaded detail around the waist, by Enzoani. She also wore a cathedral-length veil scattered with crystals and diamante and a crystal encrusted tiara by Halo & Co. The dress was from Emma Hartley Bridalwear in Colne.

Groomsmen: Best man was the groom’s best friend Gary Bentley; and the ushers were David Kerr, Paul Dale, the groom’s brother Michael McCowen and the bride’s brothers Christopher and Stephen Banks. The couple’s nephew, Ellis Banks, was page boy.

Bridesmaids: The bride’s cousins Emily and Lucy Palmer, Jasmine Beckman and groom’s sister Kelly Dale were bridesmaids. They wore dresses by Dessy from Marrime, in Kendal.

Flowergirls were Courtney Warren and the couple’s niece, Antonia Banks.

Flowers: The bride carried a fragrant bouquet of pink peonies, blue delphinium, stocks, sweet peas and gypsophila.

The bridesmaids carried a mixture of white carnations and pastel coloured sweet peas.

All flowers and buttonholes were supplied by Efflorescence of Barrow.

Reception: The 94 guests enjoyed canapés and Champagne on the extensive lawns of Clarence House Hotel, in Dalton. Piper Mike Ramsay piped the bride and groom as they arrived in an open top vintage car, supplied by Little and Caine of Dalton.

Guests tucked into a “vintage theme” sweet table supplied by the bride’s mother.

The lads managed a quick kick about on the lawn with page boy Ellis as Steve Hillman took some informal shots.

Gas Bagz, of Barrow, supplied dozens of pastel coloured balloons that were released by the couple in memory of absent friends and family.

The piper was on hand to pipe the couple on their way into the dining room.

Table settings: Tables were named after songs chosen by the bride and groom. The bride’s mum placed personalised packets of Love Hearts and After Dinner Mints on the tables as a surprise to the bride and groom.

Cake: A four-tier cake, made by Cake Crusader of Barrow.

First Dance: At Last by Etta James, closely followed by Be Mine by David Gray.

Entertainment: An evening reception was held at The Nines, in Barrow. Local DJ Stu Rogers and local band The Dales provided music for over 200 guests.

Honeymoon: The couple enjoyed a honeymoon in Zakynthos, Greece.

Photographer: Steve Hillman, of Barrow.

Videographer: Selectronics, of Barrow.
