Weather warning extended for Cumbria as temperatures drop

The Met Office has extended a yellow warning for ice and snow across Cumbria after temperatures dropped to sub-zero.

A warning for ice was released for the Barrow area at 11am today. The warning is in place until Friday morning. Further warnings are also in place for Kendal and Carlisle.

An expected 4 inches of snow is to fall across Cumbria throughout today. Last night temperatures dropped to between -3 and -7 across the county.

Reports are showing that snow has started to fall in parts of Ulverston, Kendal, Newby Bridge and Ambleside.

Anyone driving or travelling is advised to be prepared for rain falling on sub-zero surfaces, or surfaces re-freezing after the rain has moved on, leaving potentially treacherous road and pavement conditions.

Have your say

we best make sure our bins are empty then as it wont be long again before they cannot come again and empty them once there is the slightest bit of snow on the roads or pavements!!

Started snowing in Langdale approx 6.30am and it is now raining It's not good on the roads even though they've been gritted. A day for staying indoors.
