Walney twins thank care unit

A PAIR of twins who had to spend 17 days in an intensive care unit for babies have “given something back” by delivering Christmas presents to infants and staff on the ward.

Walney Twins Noah and Harvey Darling, now five, had to be cared for at the unit in Furness General Hospital after they were born six weeks premature.
This Christmas the South Walney Infants pupils were inspired to go back and show their gratitude.
Miss Darling said the children were inspired to their generous act after watching an advert for the NSPCC on television and deciding they wanted to try and do something for other children.
On Christmas Eve the family delivered presents including nappies and teddies to the ward.
The children also drew two pictures for the nurses saying they are “angels” and that they are “special”, as well as taking them packets of biscuits.
“They are just aware that some people don’t have as good a Christmas as others do and they are very aware that they got help from the special care unit,” said Miss Darling, 27, of Bristol Street, Walney.
“They are more altruistic than a lot of adults I know, they are more generous and caring. They just wanted to give something back.
“When we clear out the toy cupboard we always give the old toys to charity and the same with their old clothes.”

Jackie Daniel, chief executive of the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS, thanked the boys.
She said: “It is extremely heart-warming that these two young boys not only thought of others at Christmas, but that they took the time to deliver presents to staff and babies on the special care baby unit at Furness General Hospital.
“On behalf of SCBU and the whole trust, I’d like to thank Noah and Harvey for their thoughtful donations.
“Our staff work extremely hard and I know that a kind gesture like this will make their Christmas that little bit more special.”

Have your say
