Ulpha family pays tribute to "much-loved son"

FOLLOWING a road traffic collision on the A959 near Duddon Bridge on Wednesday 5 December, the family of Peter Benson have paid tribute to a “much loved son”.

Mr Benson was involved in a road traffic collision on the A595 between The High Cross Inn and Duddon Bridge. He was driving a red 3 series BMW and it is believed no other vehicle was involved. He was transported to hospital, but despite efforts of the emergency services he tragically died.

His father, David Benson said: “Peter was a much loved son to me, his sister Jennifer and brother David. He was a cherished boyfriend to Michelle. He was well respected by his community and was committed to his family. His sudden and tragic death has devastated all who knew this wonderful young man. We, his family, wish to be allowed to grieve his loss in peace and remember Peter as he was.”

Police are appealing for anyone who may have seen Mr Benson between 3:30 pm and 4:30 pm to contact them. They are also interested in speaking to anyone who was travelling on that road and may have witnessed anything to contact PC 1574 Clark from the Roads Policing Unit at Ulverston or any police officer on 101.

Have your say

Whoever this Alison person is..........she is one disgusting human being! cannot believe the comment you made about the incompetent driver! Peter was part of my family and this was a tragic loss to all of us. Luckily I am just reading this now, just over a year after the incident, because if I was to read it straight after I would have been mortified! you are claiming it was his fault! were you there? Did you see it? I am so angry and I am sure that the rest of the family would have been too, if they had read this. Keep your opinions to yourself, if you haven't got anything nice to say ,dont say anything at all. Peter was a son, a brother, an uncle,a cousin, not a gossip story in the local newspaper! And certainly doesn't deserve to be judged on how he was driving on the day he was taken away from us. Have some respect for the father he left and the family who miss him dearly everyday. You nasty piece of work! Get a life!

Think the reality of it all is actually kicking in. Cant believe I am never ever going to speak to you again. I always thought our paths would cross again. But time for you to join your loved ones up there. May you rest in peace.
