Roadworks start following electrical fault in Barrow

ROADWORKS were due to start this morning to repair an electrical fault which caused hundreds of Barrow homes to lose power following heavy rain this week.
The high voltage electric cable fault occurred beneath Abbey Road on Wednesday and affected nearly 1,000 homes in Barrow.
Electricity North West has now identified the location of the fault and said it needs to excavate the road to repair its equipment at the junction of Abbey Road with Park Drive.
A Cumbria Highways spokesman said: “To protect members of the public and to ensure a safe working area for Electricity North West staff, Cumbria County Council has authorised an emergency road closure on Park Drive.
“The works, which will start after 9.30am today (Friday), are expected to last up to a week.
“A full diversion will be signed for vehicles and pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.
“This work has to take place as an emergency, due to the possible risk that the back-up cable might also fail.”

Went past there before and never noticed any diversion signs. I just went down jets mound ave and the west ave then back onto park drive. Not a sign in sight
