Police issue further warning after children approached in Barrow and Dalton

CUMBRIA police have issued a further warning after a child was approached by a stranger offering him a lift in Dalton.

According to Dalton police, on January 29 at 1.40pm, a boy was on his way back to school after lunch when he was allegedly approached by a man in a unknown car, at the junction with Myrtle Terrace.

The man asked if he wanted a lift, but the child refused and returned to school.

The incident follows similar reports of a blue Mercedes van approaching a group of children in Barrow on Thursday January 14.

Between 5.30pm and 6pm near The Mall, Barrow town centre, two males are alleged to have told a group of four children that they were rich and then asked if they wanted to look in the van.

The children ran off and were not harmed in any way.

A statement from Dalton Police read: "There have been several suspicious incidents in Dalton and Barrow over the past couple of days whereby a vehicle has stopped, approached children and the driver has spoken to them.

"If you have seen anything suspicious or have information relating to these incidents, please contact the Police on 101, or in an emergency always phone 999."
