Oversize load makes it safely through Barrow and Ulverston

THE complicated task of moving a 218-tonne transformer unit from Barrow to the M6 motorway was completed without incident earlier this afternoon.

The gigantic load left the docks in Barrow at 10am under escort from Cumbria Constabulary’s Road Policing Unit and arrived at junction 36 about 2pm.
During the four-hour operation, Allelys Heavy Haulage attempted to limit disruptions to motorists by periodically pulling to the side of the road to let cars through.
The 4.7-metre wide and 57-metre long piece of equipment was being transported to a substation in the Scottish village of Beattock.
See the Evening Mail on Monday for pictures.

Have your say

Chatty, maybe you should have read the Evening mail on the 10th of January, which actually warned you of the move. Having being involved in the movements of abnormal loads previously, travelling at night (low peak traffic) is not always safer, especially on high speed roads.

I crawled from Ulverston all the way to Newby Bridge where I then decided to go over Strawberry Bank to get to Kendal.
Nothing on Radio Cumbria about it or the HA website, I do wonder at the logic that dictates moving large loads during peak traffic times.
