Michelle event raises £1,000s
Last updated at 11:58, Friday, 30 November 2012
SCORES of people attended the third annual Memorial Ball in memory of RAF officer Michelle Jurd in Grange last weekend – which raised £11,000 for charity.
Mother-of-two Michelle, from Grange, was killed in 2009 after her car collided with a wagon on the A590. Her husband Neil Jurd, 43, set up the Michelle Jurd Memorial Trust the following year to raise money for causes close to her heart.
More than 130 people attended last Saturday’s ball at the Netherwood Hotel in support of The Not Forgotten Association, The Gurkha Welfare Trust and The RAF Benevolent Fund.
Guests were entertained by a bagpiper from the Queen’s Own Gurkha Logistic Regiment, and an auction offering prizes including a flight in an RAF Tornado Simulator and a trip across Morecambe Bay on a Bay Search and Rescue vehicle.
