Cyclist still critical following collision in Barrow

A CYCLIST injured in a collision with a van remains in a critical condition in hospital today.
A 70-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop and was interviewed and later released by police.
Officers were called to a report that a cyclist and van had collided in Bank Lane, Barrow, at 6.39am on Wednesday.
The cyclist, a 36-year-old man from the Merseyside area, sustained serious injuries and was taken by ambulance to Furness General Hospital.
He remains in a critical condition and has been transferred to the Preston Royal Infirmary where he is receiving treatment.
Bank Lane was closed between Rakesmoor Lane and Middlefield and reopened at around midday.
Cumbria Police have launched an investigation and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

As a driver ,I would say generally cyclists are pretty good on the roads, yes drivers do talk and text on there phone I see it all the time.

Paul is a great person and a personal friend of mine we went to see him today and the people attending to him at the hospital are amazing. I'm heartbroken by this and I hope for him and his family he makes a full recovery x
