Man assaults walker, 65, near Ambleside

A 65-YEAR-OLD walker fought off an attacker with her walking poles after she was assaulted in the Lake District.

The woman was targeted while walking near Wansfell Pike at around 4pm yesterday.

The man grabbed at her but she was able to fight him off with her walking poles, cutting his right eye in the process.

The offender is described as being in his early 30s with bushy, dark hair and a sparse beard.

He made off on foot in the direction of Ambleside.

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Kate Edkins by calling Ulverston police station on 101.
