Dr Anthony Page worked “beyond the call of duty” as consultant psychiatrist at Dane Garth Mental Unit since he started in 2003, until his retirement in December.
Colleague Kath Lever, who nominated Dr Page, said: “He really is exceptionally remarkable and it has been an honour to work with him.”
Jerusha Phifer was described as devoting “the majority of her spare time” to looking after her disabled younger brother Jaimea.
The Furness College art student, one of five children, took it upon herself to become an additional carer to her brother, helping her parents, who work full-time.
Jean Waiting, a former Barrow mayor, provides “outstanding care and attention” to her son Sean, who has a rare genetic disorder.
Margaret Burrow, who nominated Mrs Waiting, said due to her “dedication and sheer hard work”, along with medical help, Sean has lived 20 years longer than average for someone with Alstrom Syndrome.
