Lakes Leisure serves up chance to try tennis
Published at 13:32, Wednesday, 27 June 2012
SUMMER is just around the corner and with it comes what promises to be a truly Great British summer of sport.
Team GB will be going for gold at the London Olympics and, of course, there is Wimbledon, which started this week.
The oldest and most prestigious Grand Slam event grips the nation every year with the game’s biggest stars battling it out for the title. Britain’s hopes of success once again land on the shoulders of Andy Murray who is still searching for his first major title.
This year we have not one, but two chances of tennis glory as Wimbledon also hosts the London 2012 Olympic tennis event next month.
So, if you arere all set for tennis fever, where better to try tennis than Cumbria’s largest indoor and outdoor tennis centre at Lakes Leisure Ulverston on Priory Road?
Whatever your age or ability, there is something for everybody this summer at the tennis centre. A host of tennis events, special offers and sessions are available so there really is no excuse for leaving it to the professionals.
Lakes Leisure Ulverston’s free Try Tennis sessions are a great chance for all the family to get some tips from the centre’s tennis coach Gary Weatherburn. There are two free sessions from 2pm to 4pm on Saturday June 30 and Sunday July 1. The sessions run with a guideline age group but parents, brothers and sisters are all welcome to join in too.
Gary said: “What a fantastic few months we have ahead of us in terms of sport – and of course a double bill of tennis! The next few weeks would be a great time to come along to the centre and give tennis a try. We have put on lots of free tennis sessions and special offers and of course don’t forget, rain doesn’t stop play here at Ulverston.”
Throughout Wimbledon, and beyond, you can enjoy a smashing game of tennis any time at the centre and pay only off peak rates.
All equipment hire is free with a £5 deposit, so there really is no excuse to miss out.
The tennis centre is perfect for complete beginners to the sport as well as those wishing to play competitively. The centre holds social tennis sessions each week including men’s and women’s, women beginners and men beginners. There is also a 50+ session on Mondays and Wednesdays and a junior ‘stars of the future’ club every Saturday. For full details of all the tennis activities planned for summer 2012 visit www.lakesleisure.org.uk/ulverston or call the centre on 01229 584110.
