Kendal Calling has the Scream of the crop

THE headliners have been announced for Kendal Calling - Cumbria’s biggest music festival - and tickets have gone on sale.
Kendal Calling has unveiled its first crop of artists to perform at the eighth edition of this multi-award-winning Lake District festival.
Topping the bill for the Friday of the three-day event – which runs from July 26 to 28 – are the UK’s ultimate party band Basement Jaxx. The dance act don’t hide behind a screen of visuals, they put on and epic and extravagant performance that is more carnival than live show and showcases their mix of latin, hip hop and dancehall infused house music to devastating effect on tracks like Where’s Your Head At?, Red Alert, and Rendez Vu.
Saturday sees a return to Kendal Calling for The Charlatans, this time as a full band following appearances from frontman Tim Burgess in recent years.
Closing the whole event on the Sunday night are arguably one of the greatest rock ’n’ roll bands of the past 30 years, Primal Scream. Bobby Gillespie and the boys are set to bring their rock’ n’ roll swagger to the Lakes for the first time, and their new album, More Light, is released in May, so the Kendal crowd is in for a treat of old classics and new numbers.
The festival is about much more than just the headliners and its hugely eclectic line-ups have drawn much critical acclaim from festival goers, artists and media alike.
I Am Kloot will deliver their deceptively understated songs with twisted, witty lyrics, Fake Blood, aka DJ Touche, is an enormous presence on the house and electro scene and his set will have the Kendal Calling crowd dancing long into the night.
Britpop veterans The Lightning Seeds have an acoustic slot to look forward to, Northern Irish stalwarts Ash make a welcome return after their epic headline slot back in 2009, and the festival also welcomes back Lake District favourites British Sea Power, who played the first ever Kendal Calling.
The Dub Pistols’ bass-shuddering dub and big beat will be in full effect with a live performance and DJ set and national treasure Mr Scruff will bring his eclectic show to the table.
Hip-hop and dubstep comes courtesy of Foreign Beggars and drum & bass overlord Roni Size will keep the crowd jumping, while best dressed man in music, Willy Moon, brings the music of Bo Diddley and Buddy Holly kicking and screaming into the present.
Other confirmations so far include: Dutch Uncles, Jackmaster, Wave Machines, Tricka Technology (Krafty Kuts V's A.Skillz), Bondax, Oneman, Theme Park, Monsta, Slamboree, Artwork, The 1975, Dynamite MC, Loadstar, Grooverider, Dismantle, Walter Ego, Sons & Lovers, Chunky, Tonn Piper, The Mispears and Flight of Arrows.

Coldplay is music for bed-wetters. I you want to go to a festival where the highlights are bands that have sold millions of copies of records go to a kiddies festival like V and see Rhiyanna and GaGa and all the rest of the chart dross. Well done Kendal Calling, decent line-up. Primal Scream are absolute legends and produced in Screamadelica arguably the best album of the 90's.
