Lakeland Country Fair cancelled

A WATERLOGGED field forced the organisers of a rural show to cancel the event this weekend.
Lakeland Country Fair was due to be held today (Sunday) at Torver, near Coniston, but the committee called off the show after persistent rain overnight on Friday and into Saturday.
An average of around 3,000 visitors usually attend the event, which features fell racing, Cumberland and Westmorland wrestling, foxhounds and terriers, and country demonstrations.
But the committee cancelled the event after a Saturday morning inspection when vehicles could not get onto the field.
Show secretary Alison Bolt said: “On behalf of the committee, we are really sorry but we just had no choice but to cancel. The field was unusable.
“The field was waterlogged and we couldn’t argue with that. We could not get vehicles on and off the field.
“We started letting people know the show was off and we put signs up.
“We have had a lot of phone calls with people checking, it’s a popular show.
“It’s very frustrating.
“We will go ahead next year. We hope the weather is better.”
Lakeland Country Fair also had to be cancelled in 2008 due to the bad weather.

Mr Taylor
We were also going to go to the fair but we did see many signs saying that it was cancelled and if you used any sense - you would have looked at the weather a few days before and phoned them up.
