International campaign to save death row dog Lennox fails

AN INTERNATIONAL campaign to save the life of a dog on death row in Northern Ireland has failed after confirmation he was killed this morning.
Barrow animal rights campaigners joined with like-minded people around the world to stop the destruction of seven-year-old Lennox by Belfast City Council.
But a statement from the council has revealed the American bulldog/Labrador cross was "humanely put to sleep" this morning.
Lennox was seized from a family in Belfast more than two years ago after the council's dog warden found it matched the size and shape of an illegal pit bull terrier breed.
"Belfast City Council confirmed today that the dog Lennox, an illegal pit-bull terrier type, has been humanely put to sleep," a council spokesperson said.
"This was in accordance with the order of the County Court which was affirmed by the Northern Ireland Court of Appeal.
"Whilst there is an exemption scheme to which dogs of this type may be admitted as an alternative to destruction, there were no such measures that could be applied in this case that would address the concerns relating to public safety.
"The council's expert described the dog as one of the most unpredictable and dangerous dogs he had come across."

R.I.P. Lennox. I'm sure you were a lovely example of your species but unfortunately your owners were too stupid or ignorant to realise that you were not allowed to live where you lived and so your death was inevitable.
