Citizen of the Year - Sponsored by North-West Evening Mail – awarded to people who are over 18 on the date of the awards (10 October 2014) who have made an outstanding contribution to the Ulverston area through their voluntary and/or professional contribution to community life. Those nominated for this category will be shortlisted to three finalists and voted for by North-West Evening Mail readers.

Young Citizen of the Year - Sponsored by Siemens – awarded to people aged 18 and under on the date of the awards (10 October 2014) who have made an outstanding contribution to the Ulverston area through their voluntary and/or professional contribution to community life. Those nominated for this category will be shortlisted to three finalists and voted for by North-West Evening Mail readers.

Group/Project of the Year - Sponsored by Furness Building Society – awarded to a group or project that has made a real difference to the lives of people in the local community through their voluntary and/or professional work.

Teacher of the Year - Sponsored by GSK – acknowledges the contribution of those who promote learning in our community in an inspirational way. The nominations can include people from formal education and community based, informal settings.

Sports Volunteer of the year - Sponsored by Furness College – recognises the outstanding voluntary contribution of individuals who are the lifeblood of our local sporting community.

Carer of the Year - Sponsored by St Mary's Hospice – awarded to people who are over 18 on the date of the awards (10 October 2014). To recognise the valuable contribution that carers make to our community. This includes professional or voluntary work and might include nurses, social workers, family carers, neighbours/friends etc.

Courage Award - Sponsored by Ralph Spours – this award seeks to recognise the real depths of courage that ordinary people show in difficult circumstances. This might include acts of courage by people in the emergency services or ordinary members of the public who are ‘first on the scene’ of emergency or critical situations. It also seeks to recognise the daily courage that people show in facing life’s challenges such as illness and loss and the courage of individuals to turn these difficult circumstances into positive action for the good of the community.

Environmental Volunteer - Sponsored by Poole Townsend – acknowledges the outstanding voluntary contribution of individuals to maintaining our natural environment and working to promote sustainable living.

Parent/Guardian of the Year - Sponsored by Ulverston Victoria High School - Parents play a vital role in their children’s lives, no matter how young or old they are. This award seeks to recognise mums/dads/guardians who have gone over and above the norm to support their children. Please note that “because they are a great mum/dad/guardian” is not sufficient evidence to support a nomination in this category.

Employee of the year - recognises an individual who has displyed excellent levels of application, innovation, drive and ingenuity and who has gone over and above the call of duty while working in an Ulverston based organisation.

Lifetime Achievement Award - Sponsored by Ulverston Town Council - to recognise an individual who has dedicated their life to either making Ulverston a better place to live, work and play or to a specific club/organisation.
