Greenodd roundabout given green light

TRANSPORT minister Mike Penning has agreed to push on with plans to build a roundabout at a busy A590 junction.

Have your say

As a Taxi Driver using this stretch of road on a regular basis, In my mind, It does not matter how much this project costs. At the end of the day it saves lives. This roundabout has been needed for many years. It is a fast, dangerous, stretch of road. How many people need to be killed before people whinge about how much it costs.

Cut out the negative rhetoric! Tim Farren & Woodcock have done brill tackling the London based "Jobsworth" who has not got a clue of how much this is needed. If they need the money take it out of the Foreign aid budjet!!

how much??? put some traffic lights up, get a digger in, put a raised concrete circle wih a few planters and then paint some lines, directional arrows etc, how does that get to be 2 million, i know im being very simplistic but i think some-one could be ripping the tax payer off!!!

Give me a pencil and paper ,, easy money .
And i will draw up plans for £500.00.

That is going to be a massive roundabout to join the A590 to the A5087 as these 2 roads are 4 miles apart.....

In reality though, My only concern is the massive diruption it will cause whilst being built, remember the Neby Bridge roundabout, 8 months of traffic lights and 40 minute delays while 2 blokes with spades stared into a hole.

Great news this roundabout is being built as its been needed for ages now. Just a shame people have had to die for it to go ahead. But £500,000 to draw up the plans is a total joke and rip off to the tax payer as for the 2.15 Million to build it your having a laugh what they making it out of pure gold? People need to get real here and good on Mr Woodcock for challenging this.

Drawing up plans requires a lot of back-ground investigation and survey work to be completed. It is not as simple as drawing a circle over the existing road and saying that is your roundabout. If it were that easy, anyone could be an architect.

In order for the plans to be correct, someone will have to first accurately map the existing roads, paths, bridges, water pipes, power cables, etc. etc. etc.

Then experts will be required to conduct geotechnical investigation to determine the nature of the subsoil - basically to make sure the correct foundations are used.

Finally, engineers will need to review all the data acquired in order to come up with the best design.

If the roundabout was just built any old how, it would probably cost a hell of a lot more in the long run correcting all the problems.

Given all the technical work which needs completing for the design, how can you possibly think this is expensive for such a major piece of infrastructure as this roundabout?

The only conclusion I can draw from this article is that I am definitely in the wrong job.

2.15 million? That is expensive, I thought it would've been roundabout a million.

"£500,000 would be spent drawing up plans".
How on earth does it cost this much?
Then £2.15m to build it?
Obviously we're paying the architects and construction personnel the same rate as Wayne Rooney is on ! !!
