CLAIRE Moncrief is an experienced Keswick to Barrow participant, having taken part three times. Here she shares her tips with readers.
When was your first event?
How did you get involved?
A group of friends who regularly walk it were putting a team together and they asked me and a few others who hadn’t attempted it before to get involved.
How many times have you taken part?
This year will be the third time.
How do you keep fit?
Walking my dog.
How do you train for this event?
Walking the dog and group training walks organised through Askam Kids Zone.
When do you start training?
I walk all year but I have been doing a bit extra since we signed up to the Keswick to Barrow in February.
Do you have any training advice to offer?
Do some! I'm walking from Coniston to Barrow this year with my three kids and have struggled to persuade them to do very much so we shall see how they manage on the day.
What are the highlights of the day?
Every checkpoint, the views from the top of Kirkby fell, meeting other walkers along the way and of course the finish.
Any advice for people taking part?
Enjoy it, don’t worry too much about food or drink because there’s plenty along the way but take as much dry clothing as you can manage.
Who are you raising money for?
Askam Kids Zone.
