HAVING your saddle at the correct height and angle is important for your comfort and your efficiency. THIS is the name we use to describe the speed at which you pedal. The word itself is borrowed from the world of music. SHOES designed for cycling have very stiff soles, this is to ensure that all your energy pressing down, is transferred to the pedals. If you ride in trainer type shoes, then some of your energy is going into bending the soft sole of the shoe. WEARING clothing designed for cycling will assist your comfort and allow you to ride in a wide range of weather conditions. Cycling shorts and leggings have padded inserts in the seating area. For winter they can be windproof also. Tops and jackets are slightly closer tailored so there is no excess to flap in the wind. TAKE time to plan your routes, thinking about the distance, hills, traffic, and even the wind. Take a look at the weather forecast before setting out. There are also some great online route planning websites.BE realistic about how far you attempt to ride. Build up your distances slowly. Cycling is a great activity as you can improve really quickly compared to a lot of sports. So drag the bike out, give it a once over, set it up as best you can and get out riding.
