Tracey cooks up a new business

A BARROW baker has opened a new specialist cake shop in Askam.
Tracey Worthington, 45, is putting the final touches to her new Duke Street store, Bake ’n’ Bun, after helping to run Barrow cafe, Tastebuds, with her husband Roy for the past three years.
Bake ’n’ Bun will be officially opened on Thursday, selling a selection of cakes, pies and personalised chocolates.
And as well as selling a range of homemade goodies, Mrs Worthington will also be offering a made to order service for weddings and other special occasions.
She said: “I have always made cakes for Tastebuds, but a couple of years ago a lady came into the cafe and asked if I could make a cake for her partner’s 50th birthday.
“I thought it would be a one off but she was so pleased she told her friends and I suddenly got a slow trickle of people coming in to ask me to make their cakes.
“I have been working half from home and half from Tastebuds but it has got to the stage where I need more space and all of my equipment in one place.”
Bake ’n’ Bun’s open-plan layout will allow customers to watch Tracey bake while they browse the shelves or sit and enjoy a cake and a cup of tea.
Mrs Worthington said: “The store is perfect for me, as everything is on the same level.
“I can make my cakes at the same time as supervising the shop, and also give people the chance to watch me work.
“Choosing someone to make your wedding cake is a huge decision.
“It is nice for brides to be able to see my kitchen, and to see examples of what I do.
“Making a cake for such an important occasion is big responsibility and I take it very seriously.”
Bake ’n’ Bun is open from Tuesday to Saturday, 10am to 3pm.
