Link between USA and Lakeland formalised
Published at 11:35, Tuesday, 11 December 2012
LEADERS from an American college have visited a South Cumbria education institution to formalise a partnership.
Senior staff from Columbus College, in Georgia, recently went to Kendal College to sign a letter of agreement and understanding to mark the beginning of future work together.
Kendal College has established links with Blackburn College and, through this, a number of colleges in South Africa.
More recently it has linked up with Columbus College in the USA.
The joint aspiration of the colleges is to arrange staff and student exchanges, forge industrial links and tripartite programmes between the USA, South Africa and Kendal and have staff secondment, industrial updating, job shadowing and jointly validated college programmes.
Kendal College aims for the partnership to be beneficial to the wider community of South Lakeland.
During the two-day visit, at the end of November, the group toured the Kendal College departments, ate lunch at the Castle Dairy, and toured Kendal.
On the second day they worked with Kendal College’s curriculum teams to discuss partnership working in detail.
There was also a tour of Cartmel, lunch at L’Enclume and a meeting with Simon Rogan, the restaurant’s two Michelin-starred chef.
