Robin Hulbert's 2010/11 season blog - entry 13
RIGHT folks, I let myself down by being sent off against Southport on New Year’s Day. I am not dirty, just very hard. I would tackle my best friends the same way.
It is frustrating when you see tackles just as bad, like the one on Simon Spender in the Cambridge game, get less punishment. That’s life, I suppose.
I did some live commentary during the Kidderminster game on Saturday. The effort from the boys was unbelievable. Back to front, it was incredible.
Masters, Spender, Bolland, Pearson, Edwards, Goodfellow, Smith, Owen, Rutherford, Chadwick, Almond, plus five subs, the two managers, the chairman and the board and, last-but-not-least, the great supporters, who braved terrible conditions to support the lads. Everyone deserves credit.
Together we have got that result and now we will continue to build.
It was a big result. The managers and certain individuals get a little criticism, but, believe me, they want the best for the Bluebirds.
Everyone makes bad decisions, but I believe the managers have not made any bad signings. They are all good players, it is just a case of they may not have performed as expected.
That could be due to many things. I think these are not mistakes at all. Every manager is in the same boat. You learn by this, and Bayles and Shez will take this club even more forward than they have already. I have no doubt about that.
Wow, Louis Almond.
Do we have a future star? Time will tell. What I have witnessed in a brief spell is a very talented player.
He reminds me of a young Wayne Rooney. For a young lad, he uses his body strength very well and has similar attributes to the Man United star.
The managers will have their future plans for the football club and no doubt it will involve getting more talented youngsters of a similar standard in.
In Louis Almond case, we may have alerted other clubs to his potential, but, hey, there will be many more which Barrow as a football club could give a great taste of committed, good football too.
I am made up, these three points are a great start.
To all you Bluebirds – what a proud weekend it has been and well done to everyone connected to the club.
We have come through a tough few weeks, so let’s take all the positives and move onto our next game at Gateshead on Tuesday night.
Once a blue always a blue. My girlfriend is a red (Liverpool) so 0.5 per cent red in the blood. lol.

Have your say
Thanks for a very encouraging and positive blog Robin! I think the reason for supporters' unrest this season has been the lack of communication from the club and managers generally especially when results have not been good so it is refreshing to hear from you as a player directly involved. I hope Saturday's result is indicative of improved performances to come for the rest of the season and it has given us hope at last! I know what you mean about dirty play - I was known as 'the tank' although I was of slight build for a midfield player but I always got stuck in and gave everything but I never went into a tackle with the objective of crocking the other player so I accept your philosophy of playing hard. Hope you get to figure in the team soon and help Barrow to claw their way to safety!
