Day Three

Day three of our coast to coast challenge was probably the hardest yet. I know I keep saying the same thing but it was a difficult today.

I am actually sat here in a bed and breakfast writing this and my feet feel like I have been run over several times. We set off early this morning and hoped that the weather would remain good and we were blessed with some nice sun. We left at 9am after breakfast and setting off from Rosthwaite to Patterdale on the banks of Ulswater via Grasmere. It would involve two massive climbs and 18 miles to complete.

Once we completed the first climb we dropped into Grasmere where many walkers actually stop and stay overnight. But not us we planned to carry on all the way to Patterdale. I must admit when we reached Grasmere I saw a sign for a little coffee shop; I was tempted to sneak off. I was also so hot that I managed to get through around 3 litres of water. It was a key moment of the day because I think we all felt we could give up as this point. But we didn’t we carried on. It is also amazing the number of people you meet on these walks, if circumstances were different maybe you would not even speak to them but on the coast to coast there is a mutual respect for each other. When you look forward you can see a stream of people and then you look back and there are more almost as if you are being followed by a gang of people wearing rucksacks.

After making it to the top of the second peak (no Idea what it was called it something cragg) we passed the brothers parting so named because this is where Wordsworth said good bye to his brother. We continued to drop down to patterdale. After 10 hours of walking we reached our final destination on the edge of Ulswater.

I will post more tomorrow all being well with a blog from day 4 and 5.
