Barrow lifeboat tows fishing boat to safety
Last updated at 10:00, Monday, 03 September 2012
A BARROW lifeboat crew towed a fishing boat to safety in the early hours of Saturday morning.
The volunteer RNLI Barrow crew launched lifeboat 'Grace Dixon' at 4.55am to assist a fishing boat, which had run aground.
The 32 foot fishing vessel, which had five crew, had no power and the tide and breeze from the north pushed the vessel towards the sandbanks on the west side of Walney channel.
The lifeboat’s Y-boat was launched to transport a tow line to the fishing boat. Grace Dixon’s engine power then towed the casualty off the sandbank and into deep water. The vessel was then moored further down channel.
