Barrow inshore lifeboat launched twice in one day

BARROW inshore lifeboat was launched twice in one day.

The alarm was raised at 8.15pm on Sunday June 22 by people on a small fishing boat in Walney Channel, north of Walney Bridge.

The vessel suffered a sudden engine failure.

Liverpool Coastguard requested assistance and the Barrow RNLI lifeboat ‘Vision of Tamworth’ was launched at 8-20pm.

The boat was being pushed north towards Duddon Estuary by the tide which had just reached a high water of 7.8 metres and when the lifeboat arrived near to Walney Meetings.

The boat was quickly taken in tow by the lifeboat and put ashore safely at Ferry Pitching.

The lifeboat then returned to station, was washed off, refuelled and made ready for the next incident before being re-housed at 9.30pm.
