Barrow fire crews called to Tesco amid reports of 'smoke coming from roof'

FIREFIGHTERS were today called out to Tesco in Barrow after receiving reports of smoke coming from the store's roof.
Three fire engines - including one with a hydraulic platform - were called to the scene at about 10am today.
The Hindpool Road supermarket was evacuated of staff and shoppers after the store's fire alarm sounded.
By 10.30am fire crews were leaving the scene and shoppers and staff were being allowed back in.
Fire crews said the alert was caused by an electrical fault in the store's boiler room which emitted smoke and set off the alarm.

Have your say
sorry but if the fire alarm goes off in a massive store, why should it need an announcement. If they've not stated they're testing the alarms on the tannoy, then assume there might be a fire if longer than 5 seconds. You'd soon be shiftin ya backside if ya seen flames wouldnt ya or would ya still stand around saying "well i havent heard an announcement to leave, so im staying here to burn to death." Common sense really.
