Barrow driver cheats death

A BARROW man is lucky to be alive following a horrific single vehicle crash in Rampside Road.

Emergency services rushed to the scene at around 9pm yesterday (Thursday) after the alert was raised by a fellow motorist who saw the carnage.

The driver, who is in his 30s, was heading towards Barrow when his silver Peugeot 406 left the road and rolled.

The vehicle eventually came to a stop on its side in a crumpled heap amidst some bushes bordering the road.

Two fire engines attended the crash site expecting to have to free the man, but he was able to get himself clear of the wreckage.

Paramedics assessed him at the scene before taking him to Furness General Hospital for treatment for what is believed to be only a relatively minor injury.

The car, which is expected to be a write-off, was removed from the bushes and taken away by a recovery truck at around 10pm.

Have your say

I often travel this road to visit in laws and the amount of people who are to impatient and overtake is unreal, yes its a bad road, yes its muddy, but the speed has to be taken into consideration too. If people took into consideration all these factors then probably accidents would be less and less casualties and fatalities.

After nearly losing my son on the same road a few years ago and he ended up on ICU and being on life support i would say this lad has got away lightly although the hospital thought my son was ok for a few days until they found he had internal injuries and was getting worse ended up in major op and ventilator ..Just hope they haven't missed anything with this guy.
