Barrow car park closed due to falling debris

A BARROW multi-storey car park has been closed due to falling debris from a bar.

Yates
Police cordon outside Yates's bar in Duke Street, Barrow, after masonry from roof fell down.

Forshaw Street will be closed to vehicles from 4pm today and Portland Multi-Storey Car Park will be closed until further notice due to falling masonry from Yates's.

Work is expected to last several days.

Cars will still be able to exit the car park this evening.

Slater Street will become a two-way street from Cavendish Street to its junction with Forshaw Street to allow access to the loading bay serving Portland Walk, Wilkinson and The Forum.

Phil Huck, executive director of Barrow Borough Council, said: “Further to the closure of Forshaw Street, we have to close Portland Walk Car Park to allow works to be carried out to Yates's.

"We expect this will take several days.

"In the meantime, we ask the public to use Market Street car park and other town centre car parks.

"Contract permit holders for the multi-storey car park can use Market Street contract bays.”
